Revealed: Which giants are BOTTOM with just £34.7m spent?

Premier League clubs spent more than £ 2 billion on the two transfer windows of the 2024-25 season, with a surprise side unveiled as the largest overall spender.

In recent years, the wealth of the English top flight has grown faster than competitions around the world, which means that Premier League clubs can be considerable on the transfer market.

Lavish spending is no longer just the domain of 'Big 6' clubs, instead the will of Aston Villa, Newcastle and West Ham are very able to deduct various large signing sessions per season.

There is no better example of this point than the best spending club of the 2024-25 campaign: Brighton. The seagulls spent £ 231.4 million, according to figures from football financing expert Kieran Maguire, to 25 arrivals in the two windows.

Brighton supported the new boss Fabian Hurzeler in the summer and brought in a large number of new faces, including Georginio Rutter, Yankuba Minth and Matt O'Reilly. Their winter window was relatively quieter, but that did not stop them from signing the young Greek striker Stefanos Tzimas for £ 20 million.

With a total of £ 202.1 million, Manchester United is the second largest expenditure in the Premier League this season, while Rivals City is in third place with £ 200.8 million

The two parties have reversed their eye-watery totals, with United very active in the summer window, what Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte and Matthijs de Ligt brought in, while they tried to empower Erik ten Hag and improve low performance on the side.

That tactic turned out not to be successful, just like that of Man City, who saw Julian Alvarez, Joao Ancanneo and Sergio Gomez leave without a replacement.

The side of Pep Guardiola had to respond and spent more than £ 180 million in newcomers last month, including Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez and Abdukodir Khusanov.

Completion of the top five are Chelsea and Aston Villa with spending of £ 196.7 million and £ 136.6 million respectively.

The blues were the most active club in the division in general, with 35 arrivals and 31 departure over the two windows.

On the other side of the table are Premier League leaders Liverpool who have spent the least money this period among top clubs.

Arne Slot has only received two signing sessions this season – Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mhamardashvili – but has set the Reds to the point of a historic season.

There is a Merseyside feeling at the foot of the rankings, with Everton in 19th place in terms of expenditure. They spent £ 41.2 million compared to £ 34.7 million from Liverpool, while Newcastle spent £ 56.2 million.

Interestingly, the three promoted clubs have not been shy to reach the checkbook in an attempt to prevent an immediate return to the championship.

Ipswich is at the forefront of a total of £ 126 million, with Southampton and Leicester further back to £ 100.9 million and £ 73.6 million.

Other remarkable clubs are Nottingham Forest and Arsenal, separated by only three points in the second and thirds in the division and within £ 4 million from each other's expenses with £ 86.8 million and £ 90.1 million respectively.

The side of Nuno Espirito Santo had a busy summer that Elliot Anderson and Nikola Milenkovic pick up at great costs, while the Gunners splash on Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino.
