Revealed: Why Carlo Ancelotti has started Arda Guler just three times in 2025

Real Madrid Starlet Arda Guler has seen his enchantment in the club defined by the time he spent to the bank instead of his contribution on the field so far. After an impressive series of cameies at the end of last season, it seemed that the Turkish international was planned for an important role this season, but the second half of it, he is back where he was last year.

In the past three months, Guler has characterized much less than he did in the first half of the season. The 20-year-old has three goals and five assists in his 30 performances so far and collects 1,088 minutes. Only three of his ten starts came in 2025, and they were all in the Copa del Rey. Outside the Copa, Guler can only be seen for 113 minutes this calendar year.

According to Relo, the reasons for the aversion to Carlo Ancelotti to play Guler are multiple, but that the two have never had a particularly good relationship. However, the reasons for his lack of protagonism go further. The Italian manager is not convinced by his performances in training, and in particular a lack of dedication in defending, something that he prizes in a team where all players are blessed with exceptional talent.

Ancelotti has also seen reason to omit Guler on the field. The primary irritation was during a Copa del Rey against Leganes, where Guler was 'passive' in the eyes of the coaching staff, made bad decisions with and without the ball, and the team descaled. “He did nothing that the coaching staff asked him,” reads their reports. Ancelotti and his colleagues were frustrated by Guler, and it caused an argument with the Sterret about the issue, although not the first.

Against Villarreal, Kylian Mbappe complained to Guler about his decision to shoot instead of going to the Frenchman, who is not uncommon, but was seen as more proof of his inability to take advantage of the opportunities that were offered to him.

It seems increasing that Guler is on his way to the club this summer when Ancelotti is not. Recent reporting has claimed that although a decision will be made at the end of the season, if Guler is not set for a greater role, he will look for an exit in the transfer window. Inter and AC Milan have also been associated with a movement for him, just like RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen.
