Richards’ wardrobe malfunction on CBS isn’t first time he’s been left red-faced

Micah Richards' CBS Sports wardrobe malfunction was his second on live TV in as many months.

The defender-turned-pundit was responsible for CBS Sports' Champions League coverage alongside Kate Scott, Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher, as Raphinha scored a late winner for Barcelona in their clash against Benfica. Richards and Carragher erupted in cheers as the Brazilian found the back of the net in the 96th minute to make it 5-4.

As Richards jumped out of his chair in excitement, the button on his blazer appeared to come undone and land on the table in front of him – much to the delight of his amused co-hosts last night (January 21). As the incident was replayed, Carragher was heard saying: “Look at the button.” Richards joked: “I had too much food, didn't I?”

Scott added: “That was good.” Before Richards fixed his suit, he jokingly said, “Very big problem.” When the clip was shared by CBS on social media, a number of football fans took to the comments section to share their reactions. Many simply posted laughing emojis, while one user wrote: 'Comedy gold.' Another added: “Love seeing it.” While a third said: “Best comment yet.”

And it's not the first time in recent months that Richards has suffered a wardrobe malfunction. The former Manchester City star has been a regular on BBC's Match of the Day for years, alongside Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer, and during an episode in November the latter pointed out a flaw in Richards' outfit.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker explained: “We were all together yesterday [Saturday]right? It took a long time for Match of the Day because it was a memorial weekend and we didn't continue until after 11 p.m. Micah, would you mind telling us what happened to you right before we deployed?”

Richards explained: “Basically I went into my dressing room; when I say 'dressing room' I don't want to give the impression that we have a lavish dressing room. I mean, BBC is obviously great to work for, but it's more like a dressing room I went there, I put on my spray, I ironed my stuff, and I look fantastic, if I say so myself; as soon as I get to the studio, all I see is Alan [Shearer] grinning.

“I'm like, 'What is he grinning at now?' He said, 'You've got a hole in your top,' and I think he obviously pulled my leg, and he said, 'No, I mean it' huge hole – I couldn't move! was terrible.”

Although Richards is usually incredibly animated during his MOTD coverage, he was uncharacteristically silent due to the gaffe during the episode.

Lineker added: “I saw you, because you normally do quite a bit of mannerisms with your arms and stuff, but you had a big slit under the armpit of your shirt. It was so close to the show you didn't even have time to buy another shirt, that's what happens when you have weapons like that, Micah.'

As for Tuesday night's action, there was a dramatic turnaround between Benfica and Barcelona at the Estadio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica in the penultimate round of the Champions League competition phase. The home side opened the scoring just two minutes into the match, when Vangelis Pavlidis sent the ball into the top of the net from the penalty area with a rocket volley, but Robert Lewandowski did not let the Portuguese side take the lead for long. a penalty in the 13th minute after Alejandro Balde was brought down in the opposite penalty area.

Pavlidis put Benfica ahead again in the 22nd minute, before scoring his hat-trick and extending the deficit eight minutes later with his own converted penalty. Barcelona looked to turn the tide in the second half as Raphinha scored in uncharacteristic fashion after a failed move by Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin, before the Primera Liga side again extended their lead thanks to a Ronald Araujo own goal.

Lewandowski converted a second penalty of his own in the 78th minute, before Eric Garcia leveled the match with four minutes of normal time remaining thanks to a well-placed header at the back post. Barcelona eventually ran out 5-4 winners away from home when Raphinha broke onto the counter at speed on the right side of the pitch and rounded the last man Alvaro Carreras before firing the ball into the back of the net – which Richards really justified. ' in-studio response made a notable comeback.
