Marcus Rashford is about to leave Manchester United for the second time in the same number of transfer penters after the club had agreed a loan agreement with Barcelona last week
Rio Ferdinand has expressed his disappointment about the latest move from Marcus Rashford, away from Manchester United while the attacker closes a transfer to Barcelona.
Rashford, 27, fell out of grace at Old Trafford and spent the second half of the 2024-25 campaign on loan in Aston Villa. The star of England is now ready to seal a dream movement to Barcelona, which agreed on a seasonal loan agreement with an option.
Before Rashford rediscovered his shape during his stint in Villa, Rashford had struggled in a united shirt and looked far from his best.
And although a new start abroad the talented attacker should do the world of good, Ferdinand still thinks it's a shame that he is leaving Manchester United.
The former United Defender has also questioned the circumstances behind his exit, with a speculation that the situation of Rashford is more than is about.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: “There must have been so much behind the scenes that we just can't be aware of. And Marcus is not someone who really wants to talk and do interviews, so you have to respect that.
“But I am sure it will be in the wash at some point. Is it because of a lack of form? A lack of trust? Wous management? Has the club failed him? Or is it up to him? Are there any injuries that we don't know? Is he lost? Is that form gone and he can't push it back and can't he get it back?
“What are the problems that have led to a young child who graduated from the Academy in Manchester United, who is famous for all the great players who have come there, that he says he wants to leave?”
Rashford arrived in Spain on Sunday evening to put the finishing touches to his move to Barcelona, which will have an option of £ 26 million to buy the attacker that will be active next summer.
The wish of the player to become a member of the Spanish giants is well documented and he even hinted so much during a recent appearance on a Spanish YouTube channel, Xbuyer. When they asked if they wanted to play next to Lamine Yamal, Rashford replied: “Yes, certainly. Everyone in the world wants to play with the best. So hopefully we will see.”
He added: “Spain is fun, it's not too far from home. If I train for a long period, my family can come for a few days, it's a nice location and good weather.”
