Rio Ferdinand reveals real reason Marcus Rashford wants to quit Man Utd

Rio Ferdinand has claimed Marcus Rashford wants to leave Manchester United because he has been “transferred for years” – with the striker desperate to seal an exit before the transfer deadline.

Rashford's future is still unclear after his bombshell interview last year claiming he wanted to leave Old Trafford for a new challenge. The 27-year-old has found himself out of favor under Ruben Amorim and has not featured for the first team since mid-December.

The England international has been linked with a loan move to Barcelona this month, but a deal is yet to materialize – and the forward will want to sort out his future to avoid spending the rest of the season on the sidelines.

Rashford has only been named in one matchday squad since his comments on December 17, where he insisted he would leave the club with “no hard feelings”, but former United star Ferdinand believes he has been pushed towards an exit due to mounting pressure .

He told the Daily Mail: “Manchester United, people around Marcus too, need to make sure he leaves in the best tact both mentally and physically. Mentally even more important because I think he's been brought over for a few years now.

“But that also comes into the territory of being a Manchester United player. And when you're held up as one of the faces of the club, then that's part of the package of being at Man United, unfortunately.”

Ferdinand insisted that Rashford's decision was not an easy one and that only the player and his camp knew whether exploring a new challenge was worth exploring.

“I think it's always easy for everyone to assume and think what to do, but I think only Marcus and his team know the benefits of staying in Manchester or at United.

“The one thing I would advise him on – if I were his advisor – he is never 100 percent sure that the decision he makes at this intersection is right. He's going to do something – either he goes or he goes or or he goes or either he goes or he goes or he goes or Stays – and when he makes that decision he still won't be 100 percent sure.”

Rashford has until February 3 to secure an exit, with Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund looking the most likely destinations. Amorim briefly touched on his future last week but remained coy on updates.

“I don't know, I really don't know,” he said. “Guys, it's 10 days. We'll see at the end of the window what happened. And then we'll talk about that right now.”
