“He would have been a star man to think that he is not even considering big moments and big games … He has to go where he is going to play and he will find happiness.
“Because at the end of your career, yes, you want to trophies, but at the same time you want to be happy, you want to feel a part of it. I want to see that smile and that swagger and that pleasure factor when he plays football again and I don't think we've seen it for a while.”
Ferdinand added that return to Boyhood Club Aston Villa is only a good move – but he would have Morgan Rogers for competition. And with the former teammate De Bruyne is already looking for strings in Naples, where he encourages his new club to close a deal for the winger, a switch to the Serie A champions is also a reasonable scream next to Saudi.
“Villa would be great for him, but if they don't sell anyone, where does he fit in?” Ferdinand added. “I would like to see it where he gets a bit of a free role.
