Rivian stormed the electric car world in a remarkable way and introduced its small and impressive electric model, the “R3”. The R3 is uniquely positioned in the electric vehicle market as it combines an attractive and innovative design with excellent performance in urban areas and outdoor spaces. It is also equipped with the latest luxury and connectivity technologies, making it the perfect choice for those who want to own a small electric car that meets their daily needs in a luxurious and practical way.
Interior design:
The R3's cabin appears slightly smaller than the R2's, with a shorter overall length suggesting that storage capacity won't be as generous as the latter. However, a similarity is noted in the design of the cabin as the front and rear seats can be folded flat, similar to what is seen in the R2, allowing long objects to be loaded and creating a large space suitable for camping in the car. The pre-launch version featured a wide glass roof, sporty seats with slit details and carpets designed exclusively for Rivian.
The cabin is equipped with a wide range of storage options, including two glove boxes integrated into the dashboard and a front storage compartment that is accessible by opening the bonnet. Although the smaller size may reduce storage capacity, the cabin design aims to provide comfort and flexibility for users, making optimal use of available space.
Battery and performance:
So far, Rivian has not revealed the exact specifications of the batteries for the R3 and R3X models. These cars will likely be offered with two battery size options: a standard one and a larger one. The range varies depending on the chosen battery capacity.
The larger model, the R2, which has a slightly larger size and a square design, has a range of more than 500 kilometers per charge. Since the R3 model is expected to be smaller and lighter, the range will likely be slightly longer. However, we will have to wait for official announcements from the company to accurately confirm these details.
Safety and technological features:
The R3 is notable for its large, rectangular entertainment screen atop the dashboard, which serves as the main gateway to controlling various car functions, including adjusting the position of the steering wheel and mirrors, and selecting driving modes. The user interface is based on interactive, zoomable tiles for easy access to special functions, while basic functions such as navigation, media and climate control remain permanently available at the bottom of the screen. The system is designed to simplify use by allowing you to drag across the sides of the boxes to switch between options without having to delve into submenus.
The car is likely to include features such as a Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless smartphone charging and Amazon's Alexa voice assistant as part of the base specs, to enhance the in-car entertainment and connectivity experience. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are absent from the list of available features, indicating an emphasis on providing an integrated and independent user experience.
Warranty and maintenance:
All Rivian models come standard with an extended front-to-rear shock warranty of five years or 100,000 kilometers, as well as an eight-year or 280,000 kilometer battery and powertrain warranty.
