Robbie Lawler vs Rory MacDonald Revisited
Lawler and MacDonald met each other for the first time as a goodweight contenders in 2013.
On that occasion, Lawler pronounced a three-round-split decision gain on UFC 167.
Two years later he was the UFC champion Welterweight and MacDonald was the unmistakable number one competition on £ 170 after three consecutive victories.
Lawler vs Macdonald 2 started a slow start before he burst into life during the second round, when the champion heavily faltered his opponent with a huge left hand.
'The Red King' bounced back in the third frame where he shook Lawler with a main kick before he unleashed a flurry of follow -up recordings to end the fight.
In round four, Lawler and Macdonald were a bloody mess. After that five-minute frame was up, the Welterweight Duo faced each other and refused to make a backup during one of the most epic moments in UFC history.
Lawler lacked some of his lip and MacDonald's was hardly recognizable because of the catastrophic injuries on his face – but they still had to be towed back to their corners.
In the end, MacDonald simply could no longer accept damage. The Canadian fan's favorite fell to the ground in round five and the fight of the year 2015 was left in favor of Lawler.
Robbie Lawler responds to UFC Hall of Fame induction
Lawler was not completely surprised by his announcement of Hall of Fame during UFC 313.
Yet he became emotional as he listened to UFC boss Dana White and his ex-openings who pay tribute to a special video made to celebrate his career.
“I had an idea. I just did that, “Lawler said on Saturday night.
“I didn't tell anyone that I had an idea of it. I let my wife know. And when I was where I was, I was [suspecting it]. But still, when it happens, you are: “Oh, this actually happens”. “
“It went pretty well, but then all those hunters and Dana said those nice things about me, I got a bit suffocated.
“I am absolutely honored – great achievement. A lot of hard work was done, not only me, but trainers, training partners, management team.
“The best part of it is probably all those friendly words of all those hunters and my colleagues and boys who are coming now, see what I put in the sport and how I fought. It certainly gives me a good feeling. “
