Rodri opens door to astonishing Real Madrid transfer just weeks
MANCHESTER CITY star Rodri has opened the door to a possible move to Real Madrid.
It comes just weeks after the midfielder won the Ballon d'Or, prompting Real Madrid to boycott the event.
Los Blancos star Vinicius Jr. was tipped to win the award and the stupidity led to Real president Florentino Perez declining the invitation.
But Rodri still admires the club and said it would be difficult to ignore the Spanish giants if they came knocking.
He told Spanish podcast El Larguero: “When Real Madrid calls you the best club in history and the most successful, you become proud and you always have to listen.
“It's clear. You always have to pay attention.”
Rodri, 28, also has no qualms about joining Real, despite his links with fierce rival Atletico Madrid, having come through the club's youth system.
He recently stated that he was not concerned by Real Madrid's claim that Vinicius deserved to win the Ballon d'Or.
Rodri said: “All Spanish clubs should have congratulated me, but they didn't.
“I care about my family and my club. They will have their reasons for that, I wouldn't have done it that way and there's no point in thinking about it.
“The mistake is that we pay so much attention to a club that has not yet decided to participate.”
Rodri is also hopeful he will be back from his ACL injury before the end of the season.
He said: “The seasons are getting longer and this one has the Club World Cup.
“It's good to have a challenge and I have it in mind to return this season – we'll see when.”
