Roma 3-1 Milan: Giallorossi grab 3 points, Paredes nets, Felix strikes

Roma kept their hope in the Champions League places to end alive after beating 10-man AC Milan with 3-1 in the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.

Match report

The Claudio Ranieri team went on to 66 points, a Juventus placed behind the fourth, who defeated Udinese 2-0 thanks to goals from Nicolas Gonzalez and Dusan Vlahovic.

The Giallorossi know that they have to win on the last day to Torino, while they also rely on Venezia, who fight to stay in the Serie A, to get a result against Juventus next week.

It took only three minutes for Roma to open the score when Roma captain Gianluca Mancini rose the most to Power Matias Soule's Hoek along Mike Maignan.

Milan's problems were deteriorated in the 21st minute when Santiago Gimenez received a straight red card for an unnecessary elbow to the box of goal scanmaker Mancini.

Despite the fact that he went a man, Milan made himself six minutes before the break by Joao Felix, who ended in the net after Mile Svilar saved Alex Jimenez's first effort.

But Roma recovered their lead in the 58th minute when Leandro Paredes' beautiful free kick from a distance found the corner under the top right corner to spark wild scenes in the stadium.

Milan, however, refused to go back and almost re -equalize the game by Rafael Leao, but his left effort was thoroughly thinned by Svilar.

Bryan Cristante made sure that the victory chose three minutes of the time from the bottom corner just outside the box after Maignan had divested successive efforts from Angelino and Stephan El Shaarawy.

Debrief data: 500 and count for Ranieri

Although the most important focus of Ranieri will secure the Champions League football next season for Roma, he marked his 500th Serie A match with a victory on Sunday.

He also only became the second coach, in addition to Nils Liedholm, to manage Roma in the Italian top flight in three different decades, while he also achieved a rare victory for Roma over Milan.

Indeed, Roma defeated Milan for the first time since October 2019 and broke a series of 10 consecutive games without a victory against them (D4 L6).

And Roma's impressive home shape also continued, so that their undefeated line in the stadio Olimpico was extended to 12 consecutive games (W10 D2). Only under Paulo Fonseca in 2020-21 (12 – nine wins, three draws) did they obtain more.
