Romelu Lukaku makes worrying Man Utd transfer admission after Jose Mourinho call

Romelu Lukaku spent two seasons with Manchester United after a large move by Everton and it seems that the striker was not sold particularly at Old Trafford

Romelu Lukaku has claimed that he never wanted a move to Manchester United, but was influenced by his agent. The Belgian striker signed for the Red Devils in 2017 in a £ 75 million deal.

His switch came after a productive enchantment in which Everton had scored 87 goals in 166 performances for the Toffees. And it started well for Lukaku in Old Trafford and scored 27 goals during his debut campaign.

But things soon went wrong that they had fallen out of favor during his second season, while he just found it just 15 times. Lukaku was eventually sold to Italian giant Inter Milan.

The attacker has now admitted that he never shouted for a move to United and instead wanted to return to the former club Chelsea, only for then Agent Mino Raiola and Jose Mourinho to convince him otherwise.

Speaking with Koolcast Sport via Het Nieuwsblad, said Napoli Forward: “I had already told everyone: I am going to Chelsea. But suddenly Mourinho called me to say that Manchester United had made an offer.

“I came back from vacation and suddenly there was an agreement with Everton. I said to Mino:” I don't want this, “and then I now decided that I do everything myself.”

After his exit from United, Lukaku succeeded in rediscovering his target shape, and scored 64 goals for two seasons before he finally received his much desired move to Chelsea. However, he was allowed to leave after only one season, where he is on loan again before an enchantment with Roma.

Lukaku is now with another Italian side in the form of Napoli and helped the side of the Serie A title previous term. Ironically, he could have ended up in Italy before he completed a permanent move to Everton, something that caused him to question his confidence in agents.

“It actually started in 2014. I then drew with Everton, but I could also go to Juventus, Wolfsburg and Atlético. That didn't happen,” Lukaku added.

“I ended up in Everton, not a problem, but when I saw certain figures in my contract, I thought: there is something on top of each other. I started digging and then everything came out. A year later De Bruyne moved to Manchester City and started discovering everything. And then everything came in the media.”

Lukaku will remain contraction with Napoli until 2027 and will be reunited next season with Kevin De Bruyne in Naples. Asked about the role he played, he said: “I spoke with him a few times and explained how things work at Napoli. I am very happy that he is going with us. Kevin is exactly what we need to take the next step. We don't just want to defend the title – we want to improve.”
