Wayne Rooney has unveiled his Manchester United Transfer Wish-List after the worst Premier League season in the history of the club, and it includes the return of a title winner
Wayne Rooney has identified three important signing sessions that can help Manchester United repay from their worst Premier League season ever. And one of them is a return for former goalkeeper David de Gea.
The Red Devils, who won the Premier League 13 times A -record, are currently getting away in 16th place with a record layer of 39 points. Their gloomy League performances have continued under Ruben Amorim, who replaced the dismissed Erik ten Hag in November.
Despite their chronic struggles in the competition, United Champions League will save football of the season if they can beat Tottenham in Wednesday's Europa League final in Bilbao.
However, the team clearly needs a complete overhaul to compete next season at the highest level in their own country and in Europe. Rooney, the leading goal scorer of United, believes that the addition of his former teammate De Gea, together with striker Victor Osimhen and defender Marc Guehi, could be the catalyst for a turnaround.
Speaking with Amazon Prime Video Sport, the former attacker of England said: “I would probably sign David de Gea back. I think Manchester United missed him and I think he could still do very well.
“The second, I would sign Osimhen. He is a number nine, I think he is a really good striker and may be available. And the third, it would be difficult, but I would sign Guehi from Crystal Palace. As a centerback I think he would have a really good impact on the club.”
De Gea enjoyed 12 seasons in Old Trafford, once won the Premier League title and was crowned four times as United's Player of the Season. The 34-year-old was released in July 2023 and spent almost a year looking for a new team before he came to Fiorentina at the start of this season.
The Spaniard is a striking performer for the Serie A-side and helps them to secure European football while reaching the semi-final of the Europa Conference League. He will be confronted this summer with United in a prescientious game, which will undoubtedly be an emotional meeting for the Spaniard. His replacement, Andre Onana, who was brought in for his superior ball play skills, has made countless controversial blunders since his £ 47.2 million arrival of Ajax in 2023.
In the meantime, Osimhen is one of Europe's best striking talents, after he recently helped Galatasaray win the Turkish cup while he is on loan from Napoli. The Manchester Evening News reports that next season United will keep an eye on the Liam Delap of Ipswich Town as their most important striker, although the Red Devils were previously associated with the productive Nigerian.
In the meantime, another United -legend, Rio Ferdinand, has made clear what he thinks the team needs. He said: “Forget the ability of Delap, the potential, whatever you want to say about him. It's not about that now for Man United. I think they need experience there.
“Someone who knows how to score and someone who can learn these younger boys. Rasmus Hojlund needs help. He doesn't need a competitor.”
England and Crystal Palace Defender Guehi is also popular. The 24-year-old, who is connected to Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham, will be supplied with a good price tag, especially after he helped Palace to FA Cup Glory against Manchester City.
