Rooney ‘lands £800,000 BBC deal to be Match of the Day regular

Wayne Rooney seems to change the Dugout for the studio, with a report that claims that the former Captain of England has closed a lucrative deal to become a regular expert at the competition of the day.

The 39-year-old has been from management since leaving Plymouth Argyle due to mutual permission for New Year's Eve after a challenging seven-month spell that the management was in charge. It was his fourth management role in so many years, after Stints with Derby County, DC United and Birmingham City.

Rooney has made no secret of his punditry pleasure since he returned coaching, appears on Amazon Prime Video for Champions League reporting and becomes a member of the BBC as a guest at the day's competition.

Speaking with Talksport last month, he seemed to show that his immediate future would entail more media work than management. He said to the radio station: 'It is clear that I was just doing some TV work at the moment, so that's what I do. I enjoy it. So that's where I will be. '

According to The Sun, Rooney will earn £ 800,000 in two years at the BBC and will be revealed later this month after he has impressed during his guest appearances.

The deal apparently also includes a role in covering the broadcaster of the World Cup 2026 in the United States, Mexico and Canada, plus the option of another two years.

The coming arrival of Rooney comes as a match of the day to a new era after the departure of Gary Lineker, where the BBC wants to renew its Punditry team alongside presenters Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan.

It is said that Insiders have described Rooney as 'warm, witty and forensic expert', with his insight as a valuable addition as the show is created in the streaming age.

The move from Rooney also comes as a wife Colen to continue to expand her own media profile, after reporting a £ 10 million deal with Disney for a family documentary with the couple and their four sons.
