Rory MacDonald names the one UFC fight that could bring him out of MMA retirement

Rory MacDonald would not come back for just a UFC fight.

This week is three years since the former Welterweight Bellator champion announced his pension of the MMA sport.

MacDonald was half of demonstrable fighting in UFC history with Robbie Lawler back on UFC 189 in 2015. Macdonald had many memorable moments in his 34-fight career and defeated people like Tyron Woodley, BJ Penn, Nate Diaz and Demian Maia.

MacDonald withdrew after losing most, at the age of 33, after back-to-back in the 2022 PFL tournament.

Years removed from the decision, MacDonald said he will probably not return to the UFC, but he is again training, recently with former enemy Stephen Thompson for his last fight.

MacDonald was asked, from everyone, whom he probably fought in a potential comeback.

Rory MacDonald says he would be 'super interested' in Robbie Lawler trilogy

MacDonald was not once war with Robbie Lawler, but twice in his career.

The Canadian unfortunately went 0-2 against Lawler, where his rival defeated him by a split decision in 2013 and then again by the fifth round of TKO in the 'Fight of the Year' 2015.

If 'The Red King' were to fight again, MacDonald said it would probably have to be against Lawler again.

“Yes, I would probably do that,” MacDonald said about a potential Lawler trilogy on the overogs podcast.

“Not to respect Robbie, but if they offered it, I would be super interested,” MacDonald continued.

“Only because of the nostalgia and he beat me twice.

“I love Robbie. I respect him. He's great.

“So, if there is something, I would talk about it personally earlier,” said MacDonald, if he rematched Lawler.

Robbie Lawler was talking to fight Mike Perry for Jeremy Stephens

UFC Hall of Famer Lawler withdrew to MMA a year after MacDonald in 2023.

Lawler made the headlines earlier this year when he was in conversation for a comeback fight against BKFC's 'King of Violence' Mike Perry. Lawler and Perry had to fight each other in 2020, but never because 'ruthless' sustained an injury.

BKFC boss David Feldman said he could not get a deal with Lawler, who is still under UFC contract at the age of 43.

Perry is planned to go on 4 October in BKFC 82 in BKFC 82 in Newark, New Jersey, opposite UFC veteran Jeremy Stephens on BKFC 82.
