Roy Keane blasts Marcus Rashford for being distracted by ‘watches and off field stuff’ as star set for Man Utd exit

ROY KEANE believes Marcus Rashford will struggle to rediscover his hunger at Manchester United.

And he believes a “change of scenery” will do the England striker good as he looks to recapture his best form.

New boss Ruben Amorim dropped Rashford from the squad for the derby win over Man City this weekend.

And three days later, the 27-year-old sensationally admitted he is ready for a new challenge after spending the past two decades at Old Trafford.

If there is interest, that could happen next month, but there are no guarantees that clubs will make an acceptable offer.

Keane himself left United in controversial circumstances in November 2005 and believes Rashford needs a move.

Speaking to the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, he said: “My only warning to players like that, if you lose that hunger it's hard to get it back.

“We know that for great players it has nothing to do with money, but with the next challenge and your pride.

'Marcus seems to have lost his way, and he has lost his appetite.

“We've mentioned watches and all those things off the pitch and if he gets a little distracted by that it can be difficult to get that back.

“Maybe he will get it back with a change of club and environment, but I don't think he will get the hunger back at United.”

Keane moved to Celtic after agreeing to leave United 19 years ago and believes it is best for all parties if Rashford finds a new club.

He added: “I don't really care what he said, even if it's a bit long, but it's exactly right.

“Sometimes a deal works for everyone. It's been going for a year or two now, there's clearly some talent there and he's been at the club since he was a boy.

“A change would probably do him a lot of good, if he and his team and family went abroad.”

Rashford has now been with United's first team for nine years.

But ex-England striker Ian Wright says it is clear he is no longer enjoying it.

Wright said in the same podcast: “If you look at how he has played over the last few years, he is not happy. We've seen that with the managers he's had, there's different managers and different things happen.

'The fact is that he is a [high] level, and he's not quite there yet. I believe he is someone who is constantly trying to improve himself.

“Maybe with the change, and being a player who has been brought in and not from the academy, he can get himself going.

“His explanation is good: he realizes he has to leave United.

“I will always protect him because of what he has done – especially off the field – and the community will always protect him.

“But for him, you can only go so far in protecting him before he has to do it himself.

“It has to be done as quickly as possible.”
