Roy Keane pays heartwarming visit to dementia patient in Cork… as Man United legend is lauded for ‘kindest gesture’

Former captain of Manchester United Roy Keane made a heart -warming gesture when he visited a sick fan in the hospital.

The 53-year-old took the time from his busy schedule to surprise dementia patient Pat O'Sullivan with an unannounced appearance in Mercy Hospital Cork.

It comes after the family of Pat initially contacted Cork's Red FM to request a video message for their father.

Instead of sending a video, Keane went up and outside while he flew to Cork to meet his supporter personally.

Pat's son Rob O'Sullivan said: 'Roy Keane walked into my father's hospital room and shook his hand. I have no words.

'I don't know what I had ever expected, and that is fair.

'But to come and visit, take your time out of his schedule, to see my father and go back and forth trade stories.

'You have absolutely no idea (how much that meant). It still feels like a dream.

“When I looked at him, I was full of awe. I could not believe that he was right in front of me and was about to let my father's dream come true.

Rob added that his father's dementia has deteriorated since he met Keane and said: “My father cried twice. He fully understood that Roy was there. Since I last spoke to you, my father's speech has actually become very bad.

'So the timing was perfect because he and Roy could actually have a bit of a conversation.

“My father looked at him, stared at him and just couldn't believe that his hero was next to him.”

In the meantime, the Keane radio station praised for the 'friendliest gesture'.
