Roy Keane says Man Utd’s progress under Ruben Amorim is still not good enough after draw with Man City

Roy Keane says that Manchester United is still “not good enough” under Ruben Amorim after their scoreless derby – similar game with Man City – and says that he recently kicks “cups of tea about”.

United was the better side against the Pep Guardiola team – which caused the city to give all kinds of problems on the counterattack – but ultimately a lack of target threat.

Last week, Amorim's side lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest because of the solo goal of Anthony Elanga and he again looked at City.

This despite claims that United in March has a corner to have played four points of six against Arsenal and Leicester, as well as the victory over Real Sociedad in the Europa League last 16.

“I know that United Leicester and Real Sociedad defeated – but you look at the last few games and you go: this is not enough, this is not good enough,” said Sky Sports' Keane after the city game.

“Forget the United teams for which I played forget the top three or four teams that compete with Brentford, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Wolves? Do you tell me that Manchester United should be behind them?

“The majority of these players should do better than the teams I just mentioned.”

United created an XG of 0.92 against City, but did not have the murderer in the Manchester Derby. Alejandro Garnacho had the best of the first half chances, but did not succeed in converting up close, while Manuel Ugarte and Joshua Zirkzee came close after the break.

Zirkzee replaced Rasmus Hojlund after the hour, with the Danish attacker with only 15 touches of the ball and a new Premier League match without a shot.

“United can still be a target threat,” Keane added. “The few strikers they have in the club are not good enough for Man Utd, but there are other players in the team. There are broad players, defenders can score goals, there are set pieces.

“The goal that they recently gave away in Forest, you have an opposition player who runs 70 or 80 meters. Yes, you can say that it is a great run and a great goal – but someone has to tackle it. Have the desire to dig deep and get a result!

“It must come from the manager and the staff, the certain leaders they have in the dressing room. I am not saying that they must all be that way – but they have experienced players there. Maguire, Casemiro, Fernandes – do they get a grip from these players?

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer once ran 70 to 80 meters to chase someone and were sent away. They made sacrifices for the team. The sacrifices for the attacking players could make a run, make a good ball of a bad ball.

“I see the United team today: they are all applauding and they are interviewed and they said,” Draw is not too bad. ” A draw gives you nowhere quickly!

'I kicked my cups of tea about man utd'

In terms of where United goes from here, Keane believes that he does not “see” the side of Amorim as part of the top six next season, because they do not show the necessary mentality to win football matches.

“I would like to be wrong and United States will be in the top five or six next season and would take it all back, but I don't see it,” said the former United Captain.

“I have seen a few live games lately. I saw the other night forest, I kicked my cups of tea. They were neat and tidy – but would never score. No goals again today.

“If you play for a big club and get big contracts, you have the responsibility to win football matches. Is that what we are for?

“We have praised Liverpool in recent months. Why because they are clinical and winning football matches. So when we sit and go here,” I am fed up, but there are signs. ” Signs of what? “

Keane also had the problems with the term “philosophy” – and said he would never have used it in his career.

“The manager will stay there,” said Keane of Amorim. “That is the gamble he takes.

“If he doesn't get football results, we're talking about next year when he will undoubtedly get the chance to get players in the summer, we will be able to judge him better.

“That is his conviction, his philosophy and that is fine. But I love the philosophy of winning football matches. I love that philosophy.

“I never remember that I have been with the players – and some decent players and other clubs such as Forest and Brilliant managers – where we discussed our philosophy.

“We would find different ways to play. United tried to play his back and was caught a few times. I don't like that. There are times for it.

“If they went on that road and they picked up results and scored many goals, but I don't see it. My eyes don't lie to me.”

Neville: Man Utd needs five new players!

In the meantime, Sky Sports Pundit Gary Neville believes that United needs five new players in the summer transfer window – that Amorim's first would be in charge of the club.

Neville charges the defensive performance of United against City – which is comparable to other low blocks that the Portuguese have used since the move to Old Trafford – is the result of the United Head Coach who does not have the necessary players.

“From a united perspective I get why he went deep, I understand why he went back in a layer of block,” said Neville.

“But that is what we have seen from Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Erik ten Hag, they all came in with the intention of playing high-press, energy-rich football, but all go back to a low block in large competitions.

“I understand why Ruben Amorim did that today, with the players he has, because he doesn't have the players to adjust. They immediately need five new players before you even think about it.

“The three in the front are not good enough, the two behind and one, and the two wingbacks, they are not good enough.

“They need five players, they must be of service to him with five players who are good enough in this system to be able to play his system as he wants.”
