King Charles III led the tribute to the history -making lion ribbons of England after they won the title of the Euro 2025 of the ladies in a dramatic final against Spain on Sunday.
The side of Sarina Wiegman kept their courage to survive a tense penalty shoot-out while Chloe Kelly scored the decisive spot kick after two crucial rescues by Hannah Hampton.
Alessia Russo's second half Equalizer had revived the bid of England to keep the Euro title after the 25th minute Opener of Mariona Caldentey for Spain.
Kelly's winning kick led to jubilant celebrations in England, while the Prince of Wales and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer joined the stands in the stands in St Jakob Park in Basel.
Prince William celebrated with his daughter, Princess Charlotte, before congratulating the players of England on the field.
The 3-1 shoot-out victory of England rubbed their final loss of World Cup in 2023 against Spain in Australia.
King Charles greeted the Wiegman team for their Cathartic victory and immediately set their next target while he encouraged them to win the World Cup in 2027.
“This brings you, your manager and all your support team, my most sincere congratulations on winning the Euro 2025,” De Koning wrote on social media.
“For more years than I can remember, England fans have sung that famous singing 'football to home'.
“While you return home with the trophy that you won at Wembley three years ago, it is a source of great pride that, through sport skills and great teamwork, the lion ribbons those words have made come true.
“For this you have the hottest appreciation and admiration of my whole family.
“But more than that, however, in your example in recent weeks you have shown that there are no setbacks that are so difficult that the defeat cannot be converted into victory, even if the last fluitsora looms up.
“Well done, lionesses. The next task is to take the World Cup home in 2027 if you can do it possible!”
Starmer congratulated the lion ribbons on writing history with the second of their back-to-back Euro crowns.
The Lionesses are the first senior English national football team that wins a major tournament over foreign soil.
'You have made the nation proud'
The men of England won the World Cup of 1966 at home and the Lionesses won the ladies -Euro in Wembley in 2022.
“Champions! Congratulations, Lionesses – what a team. What a game. What drama,” said Starmer on X.
“You dug deeply if it mattered the most, and you made the nation proud. Historymakers.”
While Kelly and Company earned the silverware in Switzerland, street parties, pubs and bars were filled with England fans who are cheering their team to victory.
Supporters looked at large screens in Boxpark Croydon in South Londs and erupted when Kelly scored her penalty.
Extatic fans danced on benches, waved flags with England and threw drinks in the air after the ball had just hit the net.
Football Association, Chief Executive Mark Bullingham, said that a victory parade in London would give England fans the chance to celebrate with the players. “
“Our history -making lionesses are champions of Europe for the second consecutive time and have become the first senior team of England in history that a tournament wins abroad,” he said.
“We are so proud of all players, Sarina and the support team who are all part of this incredible achievement.
“They all worked incredibly hard, and we know that the nation shares our pride. The victory celebration in London On Tuesday, England fans will give fans the opportunity to celebrate with the players and be part of history.
“We have had great support from our fans, both in Switzerland and at home during the tournament, and we look forward to celebrating together and creating a number of lifelong memories.”
