Ruben Amorim admits ‘we are the worst team in the HISTORY of Man Utd’

RUBEN AMORIM believes he is in charge of the “worst Manchester United team in history”.

The 39-year-old warned fans to expect more suffering after United suffered a fourth defeat in five home games in the Premier League.

And some fans believe Andre Onana is the “worst Man Utd goalkeeper in history” after his shocking blunder sealed Brighton's comfortable 3-1 win on a day United paid tribute to legend Denis Law.

Amorim suffered another hard blow on Sunday after goals from Yankuba Minteh, Kauro Mitoma and Georginio Rutter.

The new Old Trafford boss said: “We are perhaps the worst team in the history of Manchester United.

“I know you want headlines, but I say that because we need to recognize that and change that. So there you go, your head.

“In ten games in the Premier League we have won two, I know that. Imagine this for a Manchester United fan, imagine this for me.

“You get a new coach who loses more than the previous coach. Imagine that. We must survive this moment. I know that.”

United's home record this season is the club's worst in the league in 131 years.

They have not lost six games in twelve opening matches at Old Trafford since the 1893-94 season, when they lost seven.

After 22 games, Amorim's team is in thirteenth place and is closer to the relegation zone (10 points) than the top four (12).

The Portuguese manager has tried to implement the 3-4-3 formation that worked so well for him at Sporting.

And he insisted he would not change his approach after United registered one shot on target in Brighton's easy win.

Amorim added: “For me it is clear that I am not going to change the way I see the game. I am very clear about that.

“The players will suffer, I'm sorry, the fans will suffer.

“I have one way of doing things, I know it's going to get results. But we have to face these moments. I think it's very clear to everyone what we're going to do.”

United have collected 11 points from their first 11 games, but Amorim believes the club 'must stay together'.

He added: “It is difficult to explain, we must recognize the moment and not sidestep the problem.

“Everyone here is underperforming, regardless of the circumstances.

“It is unacceptable to lose so many games for any club in the Premier League, let alone Manchester United. It's a very difficult moment, but we have to keep going.

“The opponents are better than us in many details. That we cannot be consistent. That I'm not helping my players at the moment.

“It's a difficult moment. We must recognize that we are in a very difficult situation. All those bad records, losing games at home, losing in the Premier League, we are really underperforming.”

Brighton had won five of their last six Premier League meetings with United prior to Sunday's game.

They have now extended that record to six wins, from seven dating back to May 2022.

Amorim's comments come just weeks after Gary Neville called his former club the 'worst team in the country'.
