Jean-Philippe Mateta has emerged as a shock Summer transfer target for Manchester United, with the Frenchman seen as an ideal fit for the favorite form of Ruben Amorim.
The Red Devils are expected to sign a new striker at the end of the season with both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee – a summer signing from Bologna – who struggles to regularly plunder goals in the Premier League.
It is well documented that Amorim is enthusiastic about a reunion with Viktor Gyokeres, who became one of Europe's most productive strikers while working with the Portuguese coach at Sporting Lisbon. But other goals also play in the game for the summer transfer window, including Mateta, which has been in good shape for the past 12 months.
Mateta, 27, has scored 34 goals in 106 top matches for Crystal Palace, including eight in as many competition matches since the turn of the year.
And as revealed for the first time by the sun, his revival in form under Oliver Glasner did not go unnoticed in Old Trafford, with United Scouting the Striker in each of the last three Premier League matches of Palace.
It is said that Mateta's mobility and work ethics are the perfect fit for Amorim's favorite 3-4-3 system according to United Scouts, with those two attributes that are seen as a key for the lonely frontman role.
Last month it was reported that Palace would probably demand in the £ 50 million region for their star striker, which in January 2022 permanently accompanied for a fee of £ 11 million.
The report also makes doubts about the opportunities of United to land Gyokeres, who is said to surpass their summer wish list.
It is expected that the Sweden International can leave Sporting Lisbon this summer and the 26-year-old will not be short for lovers after scoring 46 goals in 45 games for club and country this period.
And although Gyokees wants the idea to work with Amorim again, it is noted that the striker insists on a switch to a Champions League club. That, in combination with the current plight of United – their only route to Europe's Premier competition would be by winning the Europa League as it now looks – makes a movement unlikely.
United is also linked to the Liam Delap of Benjamin Sesko and the Liam Delap of Ipswich in recent weeks with further speculation probably between now and summer.
