Manchester United comes after the signing of Bryan Mbeumo, but many more transfer activities are expected in Old Trafford after their poor campaign 2024-25
Ruben Amorim excluded the midfield of Manchester United as a potential point of care after the Red Devils played a quiet 0-0 draw on Saturday with Leeds in Stockholm.
United Jet Jet on their pre-season tour through the United States on Tuesday, but started their pre-season campaign with a match against their bitter rivals in the Strawberry Arena. However, there was little to enjoy because both parties worked into a scoreless draw.
Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon, the only summer signs of United, both played in the first half and found the attention.
But with United who needs more quality additions before the new Premier League campaign starts next month, Amorim gave an honest assessment after the competition where he pointed to the 'lack of pace' in the United machine room.
He said: “It was a game for the season. The holes between our sectors were sometimes too big.
“We have a lack of pace, especially in the middle of the park and you can feel that it is difficult to win and bring the ball. But we have created opportunities.”
Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes played together in midfield during the first half with Cunha and Toby Collyer for them in the double no. 10 rolls, although Collyer and Amad later switched half of the roll. Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte were the midfield pairs of United for the second period.
United is expected to focus on a new No. 9 now that they have finally agreed the conditions with Brentford for the transfer of Bryan Mbeumo, who is expected to undergo a medical and will make his move during the weekend.
But Amorim's comments can be a hint that United will now concentrate on adding their midfield options after they focused on their attack.
In Cunha and Mbeumo, United protected two of the best attackers from last season's Premier League and Amorim was satisfied with what he saw from Cunha in his first performance for the club.
He said: “I think Matheus Cunha has shown what we need. He is a player when he receives the ball between the lines can really be aggressive in the direction of the opponents.
“We have looked at that in another team in another team, so we expect the same thing. Of course you can see that the connection between him and Bruno is still not there, but it will be a good connection.”
