Ruben Amorim has revealed that Marcus Rashford is “available” for Manchester United's FA Cup tie with Arsenal on Sunday.
Rashford has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this month after not featuring in United's last six games in all competitions. After being left out of four consecutive matchday squads by Amorim, he did return to the bench for the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle.
However, he was not used in that match and due to illness he missed the 2-2 draw against Liverpool last weekend. Rashford has admitted he is ready for a “new challenge” and the forward is reportedly in talks to join AC Milan.
However, Amorim has admitted there is a chance Rashford could feature against Arsenal. “We'll see, guys,” he said during his pre-match press conference. “Let's concentrate on the match. He is available, he is training, we will see for this match.”
Amorim also played down United's chances of strengthening their squad with new signings in the January transfer window. “The first thing I think is… I don't remember saying clearly that I want new players,” he explained.
“What I said is that sometimes the profile for this system is different, and the players came here with a different idea of how to play. So I don't remember saying that so clearly, that I want new players .What I said is that we need to improve recruitment.
“When we target players, we have to be sure that they can meet the demands. Sometimes you have to gamble a little bit. And what I also said is that we have to improve our academy, to bring young kids who can help the club to organize in the right way, and also with those rules we can do some business and have some money to invest in the team.
“Our idea is always to keep the best players and the players we are building for this club. But we know the position the club is in at the moment, but we will see. I am very happy, I love our players.” especially the boys from our academy. My players are always my favorites.
