Manchester United hopes to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer and Chelsea has ruled out of the race for the 26-year-old goal scorer
Manchester United has received a boost in their pursuit of Victor Osimhen, where Chelsea is said to exclude a movement for the attacker. Both clubs are looking for a new striker this summer, who have struggled for the goal this season so far.
The Frontline attackers from United Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have each managed only three Premier League objectives, while Chelsea Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nunku forward, have scored nine and three league goals respectively.
Van Osimhen is expected to leave Napoli this summer if he will start the last year of his contract after he has published this season on loan in Galatasaray, where he scored 30 goals in 35 performances in all competitions.
However, according to a report from the Telegraph, Chelsea is 'unlikely' to take a step for Osimhen this summer. The report states that they have 'attitude' about the 26-year-old.
Mirror Football understands that United is now moving forward with a £ 40 million movement for Osimhen after Red Devils Ruben Amorim has made him his best attacking target for the summer.
United is convinced that they can sign Osimhen for a Cut-Price fee, where Napoli has to sell it for free next year or run the risk of losing him for free. Despite United's financial limitations due to profit and sustainability rules, the club has publicly stated that Amorim will have money to spend.
“We often speak with Ruben,” CEO Omar Berrada told TNT Sports last month. “Ruben has a good relationship with Jason Wilcox. They both share the vision of how they want to see the team play.
“It's about planning well for the summer transfer window and having a clear idea of which players we want to bring. We make a number of great efforts to get our best financial position. Even if we are outside of Europe – I think we will be able to invest in the team.”
And Amorim has previously talked about how important this summer's window will be for United. “There are characteristics that we don't have in our team and we try to see the holes we have,” Amorim said earlier this month.
“When I say that we need 'big players', I am not talking about Real Madrid players. I am talking about players like I see the game. Of course, money helps! We have to be really good at recruitment.
“We have to know our system and the way we play – and the players must be perfect for their positions. So we know what to do, that is clear, and we will see next season.
“United is another context (to sports) and another competition, but we were in a similar position – and maybe even lower. I was lucky to work with Hugo [Viana] And I think I have more or less the same relationship with Jason. So in that part I am completely relaxed.
“It's different because the competition here is different, but of course we have to have a great bond. I am really enthusiastic for next season and really stressed because I put a lot of pressure on us.”
