Liam Delap enjoys an excellent season with Ipswich After achieving ten Premier League goals and Manchester United would be one of the teams that pursues his signature – with Ruben Amorim looking for a reliable goal scorer
Manchester United has received a boost in their pursuit of Ipswich striker Liam Delap after the chairman of the club admitted players is a “football cycle”. Delap has given its heads with his impressive versions for the Tractor Boys, who pay 10 times for the men of Kieran McKenna this season.
It is said that he has now been added to the five-man shortlist of strikers of Ruben Amorim prior to the summer transfer window. United urgently needs more firepower, with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failing this season to offer a steady delivery of goals in advance.
It is said that Delap together with Hugo Ekitike, Red Bull Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, Victor Osimhen and Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyoker have been recorded on United's Watchlist.
The Red Devils are currently 13th in the Premier League and are confronted with a huge task to return to the top of the Premier League, but as a starting point, Amorim needs an attacker who can guarantee goals every competition day.
And if he believes that Delap is the man to deliver that, he may have received a boost after Ipswich chairman Mark Ashton has admitted that the club might have to sell their best players.
In conversation with the East Anglian Times, he said: “What I can say is that there was interest in a number of our players from a number of Premier League clubs in January. But ownership was great, it was 'you don't have to sell'.
“Of course there is always a natural time when a player has to move. That is the cycle of life, it is the cycle of football. But we are very, very well protected with all that.”
Ipswich still fights relegation, but his 18th in the table and nine points on 17th placed wolves. The presence of Delap will be vital for their survival loop, but if they fall, United can negotiate at a reduced price.
Last summer he cost about £ 20 million from Manchester City and there have been indications that every interested club would have to pay north of £ 50 million to seduce the East Anglian Club.
Delap spoke to speculation about his future last month, but insisted that he was not in a hurry for a new challenge and enjoyed his time in Portman Road.
“I am so happy here, I enjoy it here. I just look forward to playing football. I take every game as it comes and concentrate on the next one,” he told the East Anglian Daily Times last month. “It [the media speculation] Is something I try to stay away. People around me have told me to stay away, it's something I am very good at concentrating on what I want to do. That is playing football here.
“I really enjoy my time here and I enjoy playing every week. That is the most important thing. As players and people there is noise. If we have a bad game and people are suffering because we do not get the right results or get the right results, we will continue to focus on ourselves and what we have to achieve.”
