Ruben Amorim hints Marcus Rashford’s Man Utd exit plea wasn’t forward’s idea

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has hinted that someone within Marcus Rashford's camp came up with the idea of making his wish to leave the club public.

Rashford, 27, recently announced he is 'ready for a new challenge' away from Old Trafford. His comments came after he was left out of United's squad for their clash with rivals Manchester City and Amorim has not recalled him for the two games since.

The Red Devils boss has left the door open for Rashford to return to play ahead of the January transfer window, with United facing Wolves and Newcastle before the end of the year. In a new chat with Sky Sports, Amorim has suggested that someone in Rashford's entourage told the forward to make last week's eye-catching statement which shocked his teammates at Old Trafford.

“Of course it's a difficult situation,” Amorim began. “But I understand that these types of players have a lot of people around them who make choices that sometimes are not the player's first idea. So I understand, I can separate things. I am always there to help Marcus if another player .” player. And they have to do what they have to do.

“I say they chose to do that interview because it's not just Marcus, and I understand that. As a coach I'm just focused on the performance, the way he trains. And the rest, I think it's better for me and the club to deal with that when the time comes.

“Right now I'm just focused on improving Marcus. We need a lot from talented guys like Marcus right now and I'll forget about the interview for now. I'll just see what I see on the field.”

United have lost their last two games without Rashford, whose last appearance came in the Europa League against Viktoria Plzen earlier this month. The Red Devils reportedly put the 27-year-old up for sale ahead of his comments, with new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe keen to cash in.

The sale of Rashford could hugely benefit United in their battle to avoid financial fair play sanctions. Being a product of the club's famed academy, any compensation received from another team would be considered 'pure profit'. After signing a new contract last year worth a reported £325,000-a-week, Rashford is under contract with his boyhood club until 2028.
