Ruben Amorim has told Kobbie Mainoo that he still has room for improvement, while the Midfielder of Manchester United is preparing to make his comeback due to injury.
Mainoo is included in the United team for the Europa League quarterfinals with Lyon in France on Thursday evening after nine weeks' absence, although Amorim says he will be careful with the teenager.
But United's head coach believes that he owes Mainoo to challenge him to become a better player and find his best position, even though he is already an established England international.
“We have to help him,” said Amorim. 'Casemiro plays better because we understand better as Casemiro can play. I think we can do that with Kobbie because he has many qualities. He is really good on the ball, but also near the opponent's box. We will try to manage all of that and find the right space for a player like Kobbie.
“I think that's a bit of the problem. When I see Kobbie Mainoo, I see a lot of talent, but as I see it – I could be wrong, that's for sure – I see a number of things that Kobbie Mainoo has to improve.
'He has the pace during the game, he must improve qualities that we can use. He has a lot of talent near the box. That is why he did a very good match in the Europa League in that position.
'When I see Kobbie Mainoo, I don't see a complete player in this moment because he is 19. When I say to Kobbie: “No, you're done, you're the last player,” I don't help Kobbie. “
To keep Mainoo fit, Amorim added: 'At the moment we have to be careful with Kobbie. He had a few games, so we have to be careful with his fitness. We are very happy with more options and an option such as Kobbie Mainoo with the quality he has.
“We are very happy that we have Kobbie Mainoo, but we have to be careful, we need Kobbie Mainoo Fit and Fresh.”
