Manchester United have entered advanced negotiations with Amad's representatives over a new contract.
Amad, 22, is approaching the final six months of his current contract and while United have the option to extend his current terms for a further year, Old Trafford chiefs believe the young star deserves a more lucrative long-term deal.
After scoring the winning goal in last season's dramatic 4-3 victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup, Amad was the hero again in Sunday's Manchester derby. The Ivory Coast international won the penalty for Bruno Fernandes' equalizer in the 88th minute before scoring the winner himself two minutes later to give Ruben Amorim his first derby win.
Amad has played at full-back and forward under Amorim and impressed United's new manager with consistent quality performances that have encouraged the big bosses at Old Trafford.
According to ESPN, only minor details remain to be finalized within the negotiations, as the two sides have been in discussions for weeks. It is claimed that United's intention is to make the deal official before January 1, when Amad would be allowed to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club.
Amad had not scored until breaking Manchester City's hearts under Amorim, despite providing four assists in the previous six games. Amorim has praised predecessor Erik ten Hag for his role in the 22-year-old's development, saying: “He is so good, so humble.
“But let's stay calm with Amad, stay calm. It was the work with Erik and then with Ruud [van Nistelrooy] We have done an excellent job and we have continued that. He can play in both positions, but this position in this type of game and his ability to run with the ball are very important. But all players fit into my system. If they want to and are talented, any player on our roster can fit into this system.”
Ex-United captain Gary Neville told his Sky Sports podcast: “There was nothing in front of them but Amad Diallo. I called it in the first half and he was the player we played before the game; he's the only player who that is.” playing with the freedom and energy, enthusiasm, tenacity and belief that represents what you would expect from a Premier League footballer playing for the club.
“The rest are really struggling in terms of self-confidence and quality. The club is struggling at the moment both on and off the pitch. A lot of people are hiding behind the excuses… but he is still playing football like he is a child.” “
