Ruben Amorim promotes 6ft 5in wonderkid, 16, to Man Utd training as first pictures emerge of new boss getting to work
RUBEN AMORIM has promoted a 6ft 2in prodigy to Manchester United's first-team training.
The new Red Devils manager coached his first training session at the club since replacing Erik ten Hag.
The 39-year-old Amorim is preparing his team for his first match away at Ipswich Town on Sunday.
However, due to international commitments, he only had ten first-team players at his disposal.
Kobbie Mainoo continues to build his fitness, while Amad Diallo also featured after missing Ivory Coast's defeat to Zambia on Friday.
Defenders Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro also took part in the session as they look to improve their fitness.
This meant that the boss called on the academy to shape the session.
Godwill Kukonki, 16, was a player who was given a chance by the Portuguese coach.
The defender is highly regarded at the club and has impressed with the under-18s this season.
He is believed to have the “technical and physical qualities” needed to shine in senior football.
Kukonki has been compared to Manchester City star Josko Gvardiol for his skill with his left foot.
Other first-team stars involved included Casemiro, Mason Mount and Marcus Rashford.
Rashford made the most of the international break by heading to New York to catch some NBA action.
Tyrell Malacia was also on the grass as he continued to build his fitness.
The defender has not played for the club since the last match of the 2022/2023 season.
Manchester United have confirmed that Amorim will get his first chance to face the full squad later this week.
This will be when they all return from international duty.
However, there will be doubts about Victor Lindelof as he picked up injuries for Sweden.
