Ruben Amorim believes that the secret of lifting Manchester United from the Doldrums is team binding and the chance for the players to see him stress-free.
Amorim fought fought from the moment he replaced Erik ten Hag in November without the benefit of a preseason to get to know his team.
Despite Thursday's Europa League win in Rangers, the 39-year-old often cut a frustrated figure after losing seven of his 16 games.
Amorim hit a hit a low point after Sunday's defeat against Brighton in Old Trafford when he described United as possibly the worst team in the history of the club and damaged a television during a dressing room anger.
The Portuguese coach insists on the advantage of a summer tour, with the time to train and get to know each other off the field, is invaluable for each team.
United is planting a trip to Malaysia in May after the season and will visit the US again in July when they headlining a Premier League Summer series.
“I think we need that to get that sense of connectedness,” Amorim said. 'For that we also need time to train and stay together, because that is really important.
“We don't have that. I don't know the name here, internship. Such as sleeping for the competitions. Sometimes that detail is really important.
'Pre-season, spend three weeks together and creating something. And then you want to make something new with the players.
'I want them to know me in a different way, not always preparing the matches with stress. We don't have time to do that.
'I think it's really important and I think it's the secret of teams. Even if you have the best players, if you don't, you have that feeling that it is very difficult to win, so I want to build something like that here. But we need time for that. '
The victory of United on Rangers has at least stimulated their hope for a top-eight finish in the Europa League prior to the last group match of next week against Steaua Bucharest.
It would mean that they do not have to play a play-off to qualify for the last 16, to reduce the schedule with two games and give Amorim more time to work with his players.
