Manchester United dropped to another Premier League defeat of the previous Time -Out, in which manager Ruben Amorim accepted that his position should come under the microscope if things do not improve
Ruben Amorim has admitted that he is 'ashamed' through the battle of Manchester United, but has told the board that he knows what is needed to get better. United dropped to another defeat from the Premier League during the weekend and lost 2-0 at home to West Ham.
That leaves the Red Devils in 16th place in the table and has lost no fewer than 17 games this season. Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag in November, but has supervised only six wins in 25 league games.
It was a different story on the continent, in which Amorim supervised a run to the Europa League final that could still see them return to the Champions League. However, the manager offered a relevant insight into his term of office, which suggests that if things do not improve, he should be replaced.
Mirror Football understands that the old Trafford -Hierarchy will assess the position of Amorim at the end of the season. And in a new interview with Sky Sports, the Portuguese accepts that something is wrong in his current team, but there is still confidence that he knows how to repair it.
“First of all, I am really ashamed in 25 games to win only six. There is something wrong in the way we play football,” he admitted.
“Sometimes it's not about the way we play … Tactically or technically, it's the way we are confronted with competition, the way we suffer, the way we get angry because we lose. These things we need to improve.
“It's not just within the field, it's outside the field. That feeling I am talking about – to fight until the end, the way we are confronted with competition. It's not ok to lose, it's not ok to draw.
“That feeling is not about trust, it is about the faith and understanding that we are Manchester United. We don't want to be the worst in the competition and our position is unacceptable.”
Amorim added: “For me that is not about a lack of trust. It is something profound.
“I spoke with the board, with everyone – even the fans at any time. I have a clear feeling that I know what this team should be so much better. That helps me to maintain that level, not to be so low or too high.”
He cut a considerably more negative figure in his press conference after he was lost to the Hammers, where he hinted that he could replace next season.
He said: “I don't want to talk about the players. I am talking about myself and the culture in the club and the culture in the team. I have that feeling.
“We have to change that and we have to be really strong in the summer and be brave. Because we can't have a season next year. If the feeling is still there, we have to give space to different people.
“So it's a big problem that we have here at the club. It is a decisive moment in the history of the club. We have to tackle that.”
