RUBEN AMORIM says Marcus Rashford was wrong when he told the world he wants to leave Manchester United.
Striker Rashford stunned the Red Devils by revealing in an impressive interview that he is ready to LEAVE his boyhood club.
Gaffer Amorim wished the star had come to him first, saying: “If this was me, I'd probably speak to the manager.”
But he suggested the troubled England ace, 27, could still get the 'new challenge' he wants by staying at Old Trafford.
Rashford made his stunning admission 48 hours after he and Alejandro Garnacho were left out of the squad for Sunday's 2-1 derby win against City.
Amorim, 39, claimed the pair could return for the Carabao Cup quarter-final at Spurs on Thursday evening – if they follow through with their ideas.
But while Garnacho, 20, was with the team for the trip to London yesterday, there was no sign of Rashford.
Portuguese boss Amorim is apparently unhappy with the behavior of some players off the field.
Yet he insisted that his warning about watching how they ate and dressed was only meant to emphasize his attention to detail among the entire squad.
He added: “I don't know how they dress, I only see them in the kit.
'And I don't know how they eat, I don't look at their plates, it was just to make a point.
“I have no control over that. What I can control is the way I see things that I bring into the matches and training.
“For Marcus, all the players, my focus is on setting the standards and seeing if they can do that – and then playing the games.”
Rashford stunned the Old Trafford faithful by telling Henry Winter: “I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps. If I leave there will be 'no hard feelings'.”
“You won't get any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That's me as a person.”
“If I know a situation is already bad, I'm not going to make it worse.
“I've seen other players leave in the past and I don't want to be that person.
“When I leave, I will make a statement, and it will be mine.”
Midfielder Mason Mount, 25, has been ruled out of Thursday night's match after picking up another injury against City.
