Ruben Amorim told harsh reality of Man Utd transfer situation in tough statement

Former Chelsea star Joe Cole has told Ruben Amorim that top players do not want to play for Manchester United in its current form.

The 39-year-old Amorim has had a poor start since replacing Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. The Portuguese boss was so disheartened by their recent 2-0 home loss to Newcastle United that he even admitted the club could be in the battle against relegation.

Although Ten Hag has been able to spend around £616 million over the course of his two and a half seasons at the club, it is currently unclear how much money Amorim will have at his disposal in January.

The former Sporting CP boss recently admitted that he hopes to bring in some new faces during the January transfer window. However, Cole believes he should not get his hopes up because top players will no longer see United as the football giant it used to be.

In an interview with Paddy Power, Cole said: “If I were to advise Manchester United I would tell them to forget about the best names in world football and the best young players. They need to pick out and sign players who can do that.” get them from the 12th to the eighth, and then from the eighth to the fourth.

“They need to have a spending pattern similar to that of Spurs over the last 20 years and see which members of the squad are comfortable competing against the likes of Brighton, Newcastle and Aston Villa.

“They are not going to buy players who can compete with the players of Manchester City and Liverpool; they are in a different market.

“People are always calling on radio talk shows to say that Manchester United should sign this player or that player. They won't go to Manchester United now unless their career is in jeopardy and they see it as an opportunity, or they are very young – in that case it is a huge gamble.”

Amorim has lost six of his first eleven games in all competitions. It's form that has seen United drop to fourteenth, where they are now closer to bottom side Southampton than to Premier League leaders Liverpool.

During his pre-match press conference against Liverpool, Amorim was asked if he expected anything to be completed in the January transfer window.

He said: “If the window is open we can try to do something and we will try to do something. But I think in the coming weeks we will have more time to train and we can improve, that's the only thing that we can do.” way.

“We have played many matches without training, now we have more room to grow. You can see that the context is worse at the moment because we have suffered many losses, so we have to keep everything under control.”
