Ruben Amorim urged to hijack Arsenal transfer in desperate bid to solve Man Utd crisis

Gary Pallister has urged Manchester United to sign Alexander Isak, insisting: “The club just needs a goalscorer.”

Newcastle star Isak has been one of the big hits of the Premier League season so far. He has already scored thirteen goals, ten of which have been scored in the last eleven games alone.

The Swedish international has become a hot commodity and it is no wonder there are top clubs in the market. The Magpies are redoubling their efforts to ensure Isak does not leave, with Arsenal strongly linked with a move for him.

Anyone looking to acquire the 25-year-old will likely have to pay more than the British record £115 million Chelsea paid Brighton to sign Moises Caicedo.

That could put many clubs out of the market, including Arsenal, but Pallister believes his former club United will need to sign someone of Isak's ilk to remedy the lack of goals.

The former centre-back, who won four Premier League titles under Sir Alex Ferguson, told Betano: “Alexander Isak would immediately improve Manchester United's squad.

“They are still looking for a player who can score goals; he looks the finished article and confident. I'm not sure they will pay out £150m, which is what Newcastle want, but he would be a great signing for any Premier League side.

“It sounds from Old Trafford that they are looking for new strikers.” That's no surprise considering Rasmus Hojlund hasn't scored in any of his last seven games and Joshua Zirkzee has scored just four all season.

Isak scored in Newcastle's 2-0 win at OId Trafford last month to underline the point. Pallister said: “Rasmus Hojlund has been at the club for a season and a half. Look, I like his attitude, but it's clear he's learning on the job. The club needs goals now – Joshua Zirkzee is not a striker for me. more like a number ten.

“It's a shame the club didn't try to get the deal done for Harry Kane when he was on the market. I'd say Isak is out of the club's price range but if anything can be done by Marcus Rashford the other way to go, I don't know. The club just needs a goalscorer.”

However, Pallister has been impressed with Amad's performances since Ruben Amorim took over earlier this season. The ex-England defender, 59, said: “He was excellent.

“At the beginning of the season he played like a player who was not sure of his place in the team, despite playing well at the end of last season. I don't know what Erik ten Hag didn't see in him.” .

“He has turned into a player who really owns that shirt. He has become an integral part of the Amorim squad and the best player on the pitch in recent weeks. He's been great – his work rate is tremendous and he's aggressive and physical enough despite being quite small. He meets all the requirements and I'm sure Amorim is happy for him.

“I'm good friends with Tony Mowbray who had him at Sunderland and he's always been enthusiastic about him. He's got a big future.”
