Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim's first signing is close to being confirmed following claims that 17-year-old Diego Leon has agreed to join the Red Devils.
United have been heavily linked with a move for the Paraguayan star, who plays as a left back for local club Cerro Porteno and has emerged as one of the brightest defensive talents around.
Now the teenage sensation has finally put pen to paper on a deal that will see him appear at Old Trafford next summer when he turns 18, according to reports. United would pay around £3 million for the youngster, in addition to around £800,000 in add-ons.
Reports from journalist Fabrizio Romano claim the move was a rubber stamp by technical director Jason Wilcox after scout Giuseppe Antonaccio insisted the club sign him.
Leon's apparent arrival comes at a time when United need more depth at left-back following the long-term injuries to Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw this season. Malacia is now back to full fitness, although Shaw is still out and Amorim is reportedly on the hunt for left-backs such as PSG's Nuno Mendes and Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies.
With Leon not likely to be available until the summer of 2025, Amorim will be keen to get one of those deals over the line, while also making a decision on Marcus Rashford's future.
The forward admitted in an impressive interview this week that he wanted to leave the club, although the former Sporting Lisbon boss insisted he wanted the England international to stay at Old Trafford.
He said: “We are better with Marcus Rashford, that's simple and we will try different things to get Marcus to the best level he has shown in the past. And that's it.”
