Manchester United tries to save their season when they are confronted against Tottenham in the Europa League final on Wednesday evening, with the winners in the Battle of Premier League-under performance that deserve silverwork and a Champions League place
Ruben Amorim says that Manchester United fans are so determined to achieve the Europa League final that they are going to “swim” to Bilbao. United takes on Tottenham in the all-or-nothing final on Wednesday-with the winners who are in a £ 100 million in the Champions League of next season.
And with 50,000 United fans who descend on Bilbao – with only 14,000 assigned tickets, not to mention the nightmare prices for hotels and travel to the Basque Country – Amorim said they go to a length to view their team.
“With our fans it is no surprise to me,” Amorim said. “They will swim to Bilbao if necessary, even without a ticket. I already know! A big thank you for everything they did during the season. We will do our best to give something to them.
“It's difficult. It's not enough, winning the Europa League. It is not enough for all the support that the fans have given us this season.
“But we are very enthusiastic about the final. It is really important, enormous for us, and we want to give that to our fans.
“I feel that it is a mixed feeling. I am really enthusiastic, but at the same time I know my responsibility as Manchester United coach. I always have that feeling of frustration for the season, so I really want to help the team win this final. We have to give something to the club, to the staff, to the staff, to everyone.”
Amorim also said he will have no problem to take some of his stars on Wednesday evening from the starting line-up.
“It is not good for a player to hear that, but I am very comfortable with that, it is my job,” Amorim said. “I think the problem we have in some matches this season, we had many injury players. So it doesn't matter if you play a minute in the final.
“Of course you want to play 90 minutes, but the most important thing is to win.
“If we win, all players will win this final and they all played in the Europa League, so that's the most important thing.”
