Ruben Dias says that Manchester City can surpass Real Madrid tonight and win the Champions League shoot between the European heavyweights.
City – Winners in 2023 – Hosthouders Real in the Etihad Stadium tonight in the first stage of their play -off draw to decide which way goes to the last 16.
Real has added Kylian Mbappe to their shimmering line-up this season, with their formidable forward line with also England star Jude Bellingham, Vinicius JR and Rodrygo.
But Dias thinks that City's own 'Big Guns' can shoot the 15-way European champions to breathe new life into their season, because they fell out of the battle in the Premier League title race.
“Since I've been here, this may have been the most difficult season so far,” said Dias. “But we have a lot of weapons in the dressing room and we just have to use them in the right way. With the right conviction we can do everything.
“It is clear that it is one of the most difficult opponents with which you can be confronted in the Champions League. We know very well what we are talking about. It is one of the most difficult games you can have.
“We have confronted with many teams that have players who can make a difference – but in the Champions League that you get. We must be solid at the back – the more solid we are, the more opportunities we have. “
Dias refused to be drawn from Real's decision to boycott the Ballon d'Or ceremony last year in protest against City Midfender Rodri who won over their winger, Vinicius Jr.
“I have never given a second thought about respect about Rodri who won it,” said Dias. “I was just happy and proud that he won it and I was there to celebrate with him.”
City boss Guardiola said he is not afraid of his work when his side goes over two legs. “I don't know if a doctor or an architect would be asked about his position,” said Guardiola.
“I don't have that feeling. I am still there for what we have won in previous seasons, otherwise I would probably not be here. But I don't think I will be thrown away on the street. “
