Ruud van Nistelrooy has hinted at possible dealings with Manchester United, with a number of stars already linked with transfers.
The former Red Devils icon and interim boss is currently in charge of struggling Leicester. He has won just one of his six games so far, with the Midlands side falling into the relegation zone.
And it's clear the Foxes need signings as they look to maintain their position in the Premier League. And Van Nistelrooy has revealed he turned to his former club for help in the market.
Speaking ahead of the match against Aston Villa this weekend, he said: “Of course I look at my network because I've played in a few countries and more clubs. It is important to use my network for opportunities to strengthen the team. We are looking at all options to help the team achieve its goal. We are looking everywhere.”
Asked how crucial signings can be, he added: “It's important. If we think there are opportunities in the market that can strengthen our squad, then getting players who can help this team survive in the Premier League will be a great thing to do. It has to be right. Let's see what opportunities come along.”
A number of United stars have already been linked with moves to the Midlands. Defender Victor Lindelof was reportedly a target, while youngsters Toby Collyer and Harry Amass are also apparently in consideration.
While United could opt to help Van Nistelrooy, any deal with the Leicester chiefs could be a huge boost. Boss Ruben Amorim has already confirmed that players will have to leave before he can bring in players.
Last month he said: “We won't have that opportunity in January if we don't hire (sell) some players. So you know the situation better than I do.
“So it's not like I come here and I can spend a lot of money on changing the whole team. You know the situation, so there's no point in talking about it.”
A few young stars are at the top of the list for January loan deals. Amass and fellow academy student Dan Gore are destined for temporary moves to gain experience. But more outgoings need to happen throughout the month before Amorim can get his own signings.
