Match report
Nigeria's 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign is back on the right track after a 2-0 win over Rwanda on MatchDay Five with Victor Osimhen scored a brace.
The Super Eagles were under pressure on Friday afternoon to claim all three points in Kigali when they arrived at the Stade AmaHoro who was fifth in group C – five points of the automatic qualifying place – after they had won any of their first four games.
Moreover, Nigeria had not scored to Rwanda in just under two decades, so there was enough at stake for new manager Eric Chelle in his first game since he was appointed at the beginning of the year to replace Augustine Eguavoen.
Chelle called a strong starting XI, with many players with Premier League experience. Ola Aina was on the left at the left at the left, Alex Iwobi collaborated with Wilfred Ndidi in midfield and Calvin Bassey continued his partnership with Captain and former Watford star William Troost-Echong in Central Defense.
Although the opening goal of the game came through a combination of a player to return to England this summer and a player strongly connected to a Premier League transfer.
From the free kick of breathola lookman, Osimhen moved away to the back post, gambling on the delivery inch-perfect, and made no mistake from close to open his account in the world cup qualification.
