Salah comments on Liverpool contract dispute send ripples through Barcelona
Mohamed Salah sent shockwaves across Merseyside this week when he announced he was closer to leaving Liverpool than staying at Anfield. The tremors have been felt as far away as Barcelona.
The Egyptian is out of contract next summer and earns almost €22 million a year, with the Reds seemingly reluctant to award star wages and a long contract to their 32-year-old striker. Salah remains their most dangerous striker, but he says he has not received an offer from Liverpool and is not in talks to stay, which he says he wants.
The experienced right winger has been closely linked with a huge salary shift to Saudi Arabia. Salah was also shortlisted for Barcelona not so long ago. MD says they are internally debating whether it would be a good idea to sign Salah. His quality is undisputed, but it is crown jewel Lamine Yamal who operates in his favorite position.
It may seem like a mistake not to release a player of Salah's quality, but in this case it seems to create an unnecessary problem with Lamine Yamal. Furthermore, Barcelona should exercise the same caution as Liverpool when it comes to handing a big contract to someone in their 30s, and to someone who would stretch their limited finances.
