Salah drops ‘stay humble’ jibe on Liverpool’s title ambitions

Liverpool ended 2024 with a bang as Arne Slot's side stormed to a 5-0 Premier League win at West Ham.

The Reds have now built an eight-point lead at the top of the table over Nottingham Forest, with rivals Chelsea and Arsenal both in action in the coming days.

Liverpool ruthlessly swept aside the Hammers, with Luiz Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and substitute Diogo Jota all on target.

Salah continued his excellent form on the road at the London Stadium with a goal and two assists, taking his Premier League tally in both stats to 17 and 13 respectively.

He has been involved in 30 goals in just 18 Premier League games this season, the fewest appearances it has taken for a player to score 30 goals in a single season in the competition.

Salah has both scored and assisted in eight different Premier League games for Liverpool, the most any player has done in a single season in the competition.

The Egyptian also scored more than 20 goals in all competitions in all eight seasons at Liverpool.

Among Premier League players (since 1992-93), only Alan Shearer (10) and Harry Kane (nine) have scored more 20-plus goal campaigns than the Liverpool striker.

Despite speculation surrounding his future at Anfield, Salah is happy to lead Liverpool's title campaign in 2025 but is taking nothing for granted at this stage of the season.

“All I'm thinking about is I want Liverpool to win the league and I want to be part of that,” he told Sky Sports at full-time.

“I will do my best to ensure that the team wins the league trophy. There are a few other teams that are overtaking us, and we have to stay focused and humble and go again.”

Salah's form will be crucial to Liverpool's chances of securing their second ever Premier League title in 2025.

However, he confirmed that no progress has been made in the ongoing contract renewal discussion as he enters the final six months of his current contract in January.

Liverpool now have the bonus of an extended break before their first match of 2025 against Manchester United this Sunday.
