Salah negotiations with PSG ‘quite advanced’
According to rumors in France, the Egyptian is an option for the Parisians.
From January, Mohamed Salah can negotiate with any team. The 32-year-old Egyptian has caused a firestorm in Liverpool by claiming contract extension talks have stalled.
Before Liverpool's 2-0 win over Manchester City, Salah hinted that this might have been his last match at Anfield against Manchester City. And now Paris Saint-Germain has emerged as a potential destination, with Salah being eyed as a franchise player.
A source close to Salah told L'Équipe that both sides have been in talks for some time and that negotiations are “quite advanced”.
However, PSG has denied these claims to the French newspaper, although this would not be the first time that the club has played down its interest in a player in order not to disrupt a possible transfer. Similar denials occurred with Neymar in 2017 and Messi three years ago, just before their actions were completed.
Salah admired by Qatar and PSG
Salah has long been a dream target for Qatar. His name is often linked with PSG, but the Parisian club never formally made a bid. Salah is a popular figure in the Middle East, where Qatar has significant economic influence.
He has been one of the Premier League's most decisive players over the past five years and a valuable asset to any team worldwide. PSG, currently leaders in Ligue 1, is closely monitoring his contract situation.
Publicly, there are no ongoing negotiations between PSG and Salah, with the club insisting they are not interested in signing the Egyptian star. However, French sources contradict this and suggest that with Salah's contract expiring in 2025, a transfer could be feasible and provide the quality boost Luis Enrique's team are craving this season.
Despite PSG's current policy of focusing on young talent rather than stars, Qatar and club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi have always admired Salah. Therefore, it is possible that PSG will make contact in January, when Salah is free to negotiate with any team, to explore the feasibility of the transfer.
This move would be the icing on the cake for Luis Enrique, who has made two new signings in the upcoming transfer window, aware of his side's attacking limitations.
