Salah reveals why he has signed a new two-year Liverpool deal

Mohamed Salah has spoken for the first time since signing a new two -year contract in Liverpool.

Salah, 32, is one of the best players of Liverpool of all time, in which the Egyptian scored a remarkable 243 goals in 394 games for the club since he came to Roma in 2017 for a first fee of £ 36.5 million.

The attacker has won eight trophies in Anfield and remains an integral part on the side of Arne Slot while they close for the Premier League title.

Salah's previous contract would expire in the summer and speculation about his future was an important point of conversation during the campaign, in which the attacker regularly gave cryptic answers when he was questioned about his future.

On Friday, however, the club confirmed that until 2027 he had put pen on paper about a new deal, which ended the dramatic saga.

And shortly after the news was confirmed, Salah expressed his joy and revealed the reasoning behind his decision.

“Of course I am very excited,” he told the official Liverpool website. “We now have a great team. Before that we also had a great team. But I signed because I think we have the chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football.

“It's great, I've had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it will be 10. Enjoy my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.

“I would like to say [the fans]I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win many big trophies together.

“Keep supporting us and we give it our best, and hopefully we will win more trophies in the future.”

There had been reports that clubs in Saudi Arabia were interested in the 32-year-old, with Al-Eittihad saw an £ 150 million bid that was rejected in August 2023 and it was reported that the Egyptian was seen as a 'dream goal' of the Saudi Pro League.

After putting the pen on paper, however, Salah is now ready to expand his eight -year association with the Reds.

The news also comes after Mail Sport reported on Wednesday that Salah almost matched a new deal.

Virgil van Dijk, who no longer has a contract in the summer, will probably follow the example after dropping an important hint about his future twice in the past week.

The captain said that 'progress' was made shortly after Liverpool's defeat by Fulham and Craven Cottage and told a children's question and answer event with Cadbury's that a resolution will be found soon.

It is understood that the Dutch defender also goes in the right direction with his Saga, and is on course to also put pen on paper about a new two-year-old deal anyway, so nothing has been signed or officially.

In the meantime, Salah enjoyed a stunning season in 2024-25, with the 32-year-old 27 goals and add 17 assists in just 31 Premier League matches.

During the campaign, however, he also dropped repeated hints about his future and how his time in Anfield may end when the contract that Saga rumbled.

In an interview with Sky Sports in January, Salah even stated that 'this is my last year' with Liverpool when he planned to leave with the Premier League title.

Elsewhere, in November, Salah shocked the football world when he publicly called the club for a lack of progress when offering a new deal.

The attacker held a rare interview with Mail Sport and a small group of other reporters after scoring twice in the 3-2 victory in Southampton, where he said he was 'more out than in'.

Salah has tackled his contract setup: 'We are almost in December and I have not yet received any offers to stay in the club.

'I am probably more out than in. You know that I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end it's not in my hands. Like I said, it's December and I haven't received anything about my future yet.

“I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end it is not in my hands or the hands of the fans. '

In the meantime, in the aftermath of the 2-0 victory of Liverpool against Man City in December in which the attacker scored and added an assist, Salah again hinted that he was on his way to the club.

“It's very special,” the 32-year-old explained. “I said earlier, I don't take it for granted. I enjoy every minute here.

“It feels like home. So yes, it's a special feeling. It is always to score at Anfield and to win games.

'Of course, to be honest, in my head it was as if this is my problem, so far, the last city game that I play for Liverpool, so I'm just going to enjoy it.

'The atmosphere was incredible, so I enjoy every second here. And yes, we finally just (hopefully) win the competition and see what will happen. '

But Salah has now put the pen on paper and he could lift his ninth trophy with Liverpool in the coming weeks in the form of the Premier League.

The Reds are currently 11 points free from Arsenal with seven games to go and are back in action on Sunday when they organize West Ham in Anfield in what will certainly be a party atmosphere after news about the renewal of Salah.
