Salah says ‘hopefully Virgil will be next’ after celebrating new Liverpool contract

Mohamed Salah has expressed the hope that Virgil van Dijk will bind his future to Liverpool, after the duo helped the Reds after the Premier League title.

Salah, who offered Luis Diaz the help to break the impasse in Sunday's 2-1 win over West Ham, wrote a new two-year-old deal on Friday, where the club is said to be still busy with Van Dijk.

The Dutchman was partly in default of the equalizer of West Ham when he accelerated a cross to Andy Robertson, who bend it in his own net, but he made up for his fault with a last-gasp header to seal all three points for Liverpool.

The victory leaves the side of Arne Slot just six points away from conquering the Premier League title, with six more games.

Salah spoke with Sky Sports, expressed both lighting about his own innovation and a desire to see Van Dijk follow.

“I am happy that we were able to do that before the end of the season. Hopefully Virgil will be the next,” he said.

“He can do what he wants, but I would like to play with him next season.”

Speaking of the same subject, Van Dijk was a little more reserved in his response.

“Everyone knows how much I love this club and let's see what will look like next week,” he told Sky Sports.

The West Ham competition was Van Dijk's 100th as captain of Liverpool, and he acknowledged that he achieved that Mark during the weekend that the Reds paid tribute to the victims of the disaster with Hillsbrorough, made it particularly emotional.

“I am very happy to supplement my 100th match for Liverpool, it was an emotional day with Hillsborough and that was the most important focus,” he said.

“A step closer to all our dreams.”

Van Dijk's 89th minute Header for Alexis Mac Allister's Corner was his 24th Premier League goal-it most of every center-back since his debut in September 2015.

John Terry (27) is the only defender in the Premier League history with more cup of goals than Van Dijk (18), who caught up Sami Hyypia with his last (17).

It was his second goal of the season and his first since October last year, when he scored against Arsenal.
