Salah’s eye-watering Liverpool salary after superstar dropped contract bombshell

Mohamed Salah is set to earn more than £300,000-a-week at Liverpool after signing a contract that would make him the club's highest-paid player in 2022.

Salah had put pen to paper after a lengthy stalemate but has found himself in an identical situation this season, claiming there are no new offers to stay on the table.

The striker gave a rare interview with Mail Sport and a small group of other reporters after scoring twice in the 3-2 win over Southampton.

He revealed that no progress has been made on an extension, meaning he could sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from early January. However, it is understood Liverpool have contacted his agent.

Anfield sources have suggested that talks over a new deal have been positive.

The financial details involved in a potential extension are unknown, but it is believed Salah is currently banking around £300,000 a week on his current terms.

According to Spotrac, Salah's previous weekly wage of £200,000 was increased to around £350,000 in 2022, taking his total annual salary to just over £18 million.

His long-time adviser, Ramy Abbas Issa, suggested last year that image rights and commercial activities would supplement his combined income to around £1 million a week.

In a study published by Harvard Business School, Issa also estimates that Salah's total earnings were between £46.8 million and £53.7 million per year.

As reported by Mail Sport, Liverpool have rejected a lucrative £150 million bid from Saudi side Al-Ittihad in 2023. On that occasion, the Reds could not compete with a whopping tax-free salary of £1.25 million per week. offer from the club.

Salah said on Sunday about his contract break: 'We are almost in December and I have not yet received any offers to stay at the club.

'I'm probably outside more than inside.

'You know I've been at the club for years. There is no club like this. But ultimately it's out of my hands. Like I said, it's December and I haven't received anything about my future yet.

'I love the fans. The fans love me. Ultimately it is not in my hands, nor in the hands of the fans.'

Asked if he was disappointed with the lack of progress, Salah replied: “Of course, yes. I'm not retiring anytime soon so I'm just playing, focusing on the season and trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League too.

'I'm disappointed, but we'll see.

'I am very professional. Everyone can see my work ethic. I'm just trying to enjoy my football and continue playing at the highest level for as long as possible.'
