Salford City takeover: David Beckham and Gary Neville lead new consortium

Salford City has been taken over by a new consortium led by David Beckham and Gary Neville that is planning to “invest” considerably in the club.

The new shareholders also include the American businessman Declan Kelly and Lord Mervyn Davies, who will both serve as co-presidents of the League Two Side board.

Neville and Beckham were already co-owners of Salford in addition to their former class of '92 Manchester United teammates Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Phil Neville Plus Singaporean businessman Peter Lim, but they will not be shareholders, although they will remain in roles in the club.

Beckham said: “I grew up in Salford. I have such good memories of my time that lived there and the place and people played such an important role in my early life in football.

“Salford City is the core of his community. It has a rich history and I am pleased to be part of the next chapter.”

Salford zegt dat de overname “uniek gestructureerd” is geweest via een ledenclub bestaande uit negen aandeelhouders, waaronder Dream Sports Group (het toonaangevende sporttechnologiebedrijf van India), Colin Ryan (oprichter, Clipper Street Capital), Frank Ryan (Global Co-voorzitter, Global Co-Ceo en Americas Chair, DLA Piper), Nick Woodhouse (Executive vice-chairman, authentic, authentic, authentic, authentic, authentic, authentic, authentic, authentic, authentic, authentic brand brand) and Shravin Mittal (founder of Infounder), and Shravin Mittal

“These shareholders have extensive experience working with many of the world's largest companies and brands,” said Salford. “The membership group is specifically built to include managers from different backgrounds in finance, legal, media, technology and entertainment sectors to maximize the impact and contribution they can have at the club.”

Neville added: “I am passionate about Salford City. This is a unique collaboration with a diverse range of spirits and expertise, held together by a love for football. Football will first come, but it is crucial that we will drive the club to sustainability in the next 4-5 years. I can't wait for the next part of this trip.”
