William Saliba admitted that he was “not so good” for Arsenal this season and said that he demands more of himself if he wants to help the Gunners win silverware.
After three loan spells with Saint-Etienne, Nice and Marseille, Saliba broke in the Arsenal team in 2022 and she formed an excellent partnership alongside Gabriel Magalhaes.
In the Premier League in previous term, Saliba and Gabriel Arsenal helped a competition-bear 29 goals, while Mikel Arteta's side ended two points behind champions Manchester City.
However, Arsenal has difficulty maintaining their high defensive standards this season, so that 24 goals are entered with 10 more games of the current campaign.
The Gunners are also 15 points behind leaders Liverpool in the Premier League, making it increasingly likely that they will again be short of the title.
“I want to be one day [one of] The best defenders in the world, “Saliba told a press conference on Tuesday.
“You have to work a lot, to win trophies. It's my dream. I think I'm not the best right now, because I have not been so good this season. It's true.
“I have to judge my season, but this season is not so good. I have to watch my partner, Gabriel, who has been so good this season. I have to concentrate on myself and work more.”
When he was pressed on where he was missing, Saliba said: “My concentration. I have to score more, help my team to win some trophies.
“If you win trophies, you can say that I am the best, but as I said, this season we are still in the Champions League. The Premier League is not ready, I have to push myself.”
Although, despite his self -criticism, Saliba believes that Arsenal is close to winning a large trophy after he had not won silverware since the Shield community in 2023.
“I think we are close by, very close. We will continue, we will not stop working. If you are in a club like this, you want to win trophies,” Saliba added.
“It's sad, but we have to go on. I'm really sure that we'll arrive there.”
Arsenal welcomed PSV Eindhoven in the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday for the second stage of their Champions League round of 16 Clash.
They beat the current Eredivisie Champions with 7-1 in the first stage and the first team in the history of Champions League became seven goals scored in a knockout phase match.
The largest total victory of Arsenal in the large European competition is 10-0 versus Standard Liège in the Cup Winners' Cup 1993-94, but Arteta is expected to rest a number of important men.
However, Saliba hopes to have some involvement in the competition, even though they have only missed six games for the Gunners throughout the season.
“We don't have to think about the last game, because we have to win tomorrow,” Saliba said.
“Even if it was 7-1, we want to win every game, and it's at home, so if we win tomorrow, we have faith for the next games.
“I don't know if I will play tomorrow. I will probably know tonight or tomorrow morning.
“I would really like to play because it is a Champions League match at home, and we want to win because it will give us a lot of confidence.”
