Sam Kerr’s coach makes stunning admission on her horror knee injury over a YEAR

The date on which Matildas captain Sam Kerr can return to action remains unclear, says her club coach.

The West -Australian has been out of operation since he sustained a front cruciate ligament injury during the training of the warm weather at the beginning of January 2024.

Kerr was included in the Champions League selection of Chelsea in the hope that she could play a role in their campaign, but she was never fit enough to be mentioned even in a competition day team prior to the exit of the English club by Barcelona on Sunday, although she attended both legs.

However, Chelsea still has a lot to play. They still have three games left in the Super League for women, in which they are on track for a sixth consecutive title that is clear six points.

That campaign ends on May 10. Eight days later, Chelsea meets Manchester United in Wembley Stadium in the FA Cup final.

Kerr would like to be able to appear in that sense in three consecutive deciders won by Chelsea from 2021-2023 and scored a total of five goals.

However, Sonia Bompastor, the coach of Chelsea, said that she still has no clarity about when she could select Kerr for the first time, after she had reached the club this season.

“She works very hard,” said Bompastor.

'All performance staff does everything to play this season.

“We'll see how it's going. We know that we now only have a few games. Hopefully yes, but it's hard for me to have a clear answer. '

Kerr returned to individual training in January and her recovery has now gone much further for an ACL.

The 31-year-old scored 99 goals in 128 games since she made her Chelsea debut in January 2020.

It comes at a time when the Matilda's firepower needs, with Mary Fowler recently torn her front cruciate ligament (ACL) when playing for Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Fowler underwent an operation last week and now racing the clock to appear in next year's Asian Cup on home floor.

Performance -Coach Paulo Muwonge, who has worked with players from the Super League of England, connected the astonishing number of ACL injuries in the women's game with the number of matches that the stars have to play.

“70% of ACL injuries in the women's game can be avoided by suitable charge,” he wrote on Instagram.

'From experience I can see that the women are not in good hands when it comes to S&C [strength and conditioning] Training and load management.

'It's all about loading as minimal as possible because we do not want to' tired 'players, but it actually causes more angry.

“They have to train well to become more resilient.”

The next matches of Australia are on 30 May and 2 June against Argentina, while the Matildas are building the Women's Asian Cup in March.
