San Diego FC v Sporting Kansas City: Inspired Varas eager to stretch winning run

Mikey Varas wants his in-shape San Diego FC players to feel just as inspired as he prepares when they prepare for Sporting Kansas City.

San Diego defeated Colorado Rapids 2-0 in midweek to make it three victories in a row while they took the second place in the classification of the Western Conference.

Varas was especially satisfied with the way his side continued in the victory over Colorado and now wants more of the same.

“It was a huge victory. I hope everyone is inspired as I am,” he said reporters.

“It is easy to deteriorate when leading 1-0, but instead they did the opposite and went ahead, went and pressed with courage.

“It was a complete version. That version was an example of what we can be, so we have to enjoy that.

“Now it is a quick change and it's only about the next game, but we have a taste of what can be.”

San Diego, who participates in their inaugural MLS campaign, are 12 points better than the following opponents with 13 games played.

Sporting only won one of their last four games, but Kerry Zavagnin was proud of the way his side recovered from two down to pull 2-2 with St. Louis City previous time-out.

“You can talk about how you can't control the results,” said care boss Zavagnin. “And then you lose every game and then everyone says:” Yes, but … “.

“Our approach is that we cannot do anything yesterday and we can do nothing about tomorrow. The only thing we can handle is the moment.

“That was the message during the rest, that we have to place half behind us and show that we at least have the character to compete and pushing forward. We did and we have a result.”
