San Diego stuns LAFC in thriller as Lozano returns and Lloris falters

A wild first half and Red Card Drama Cap of a 3-2 victory for San Diego, who is now in second place in the West.

San Diego FC organized Lafc in the Snapdragon Stadium in California and delivered one of the best matches of MLS Matchday 6, achieved a dramatic 3-2 victory thanks to goals from Christopher McVey, Onni Valakari and Alex Mighten. Lafc now has to regroup quickly prior to their Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinal clash with Inter Miami.

The score started in the 21st minute when McVy got up above the Lafc defense and buried a header past Hugo Lloris, who was rooted on the spot. Things only got worse for the French keeper in the 34th minute, when a handling error Valakari donated a tap-in to make it 2-0.

It seemed that there was an eruption when Mighten added a third in the 40th minute with a neat left foot finish from a sharp layer of cross by Valakari. But Lafc reacted almost immediately – and spectacular. Artem Smolyakov unleashed a beautiful long -distance attack in the upper corner in the 43rd minute, a goal of the weekly candidate.

Just before the break, in the 45+5 ', Cengiz Ünder jumped in the six-year box after a perfect ball from Marco Delgado, which cut the shortage to 3-2 for the break.

San Diego held – and Chucky made his comeback

The second half did not match the target party of the first – all five goals had come before the break – but there was no shortage of drama. Igor Jesus saw red in the 53rd minute, which reduced Lafc to ten men and they were unable to find a way back.

The Snapdragon broke out in the 72nd minute when the hirvening of 'Chucky' Lozano returned from injury and stood up for Luca de la Torre. The Mexican attacker almost had a dream comeback with a one-on-one chance against Lloris, but the French veteran saved.

With the victory, San Diego goes to second place in the Western Conference with 11 points. In the meantime, Lafc is seventh with nine points.
