Sarina Wiegman: Lauren James could feature as a No.10 for Lionesses at Euros

The women's manager of England, Sarina Wiegman, did not exclude Lauren James as number 10 at the European championships after her return to the 7-0 win over Jamaica.

James appeared for the first time since she sustained a hamstring injury in April when she came from the bank during the last warm -up match of England before she traveled to Switzerland while they wanted to defend their European crown.

The Chelsea star made an immediate impact and set up Alessia Russo for the fifth of England's game, and Wiegman has claimed that she is happy with the progress of the 23-year-old.

“We are still building her,” said Wiegman. “She worked so hard to be where she is now. In Chelsea first, but then the last two weeks in training camps, she could do every training session and did very well.

“Now, this is the first time she can get minutes and we hope that we can continue to build her to France next week.”

Despite the fact that James is often used in a wider area for Chelsea, Wiegman chose to use her in more central areas against the reggae -girlz. This brought a fortune almost immediately, because she threatened to score just after the turnout, a volley over the bar from the edge of the area.

Moments later, James Dreef again Infield and this time it became provider. The former Star of Manchester United delivered a delicate ball to the post met by Russo to extend the benefit of the host.

“We know that we have some players who can play in different positions,” Wiegman said when he was asked about James who played in a more central position.

“LJ has played a lot in advance, she can also play on the sides. She can also play as a 10. That is what I wanted to see in that 10 position today and see how that works. I think it went really well.”

Wiegman still to decide to start XI against France

Wiegman admitted that there were still a few decisions to be made with regard to the team that will start in the opener against France on Saturday.

“We know that next week we have to take our game to a higher level. But what we wanted to do was play a good game, entertain fans, prepare for next week and everyone fit from this game.

“It shows that we have a good team and have a lot of options and competition for positions. Today we had six different players score goals, which is nice to go into the euros and it shows that the players can score goals.

“There is a lot of competition going on before and midfield, so we will find out in the coming days how we will start.”

Toone: 'Healthy Competition in England Squad'

“There is a lot of talent [in the midfield areas.] I think there is really a healthy competition within the team and who plays, the other players want them to do well.

“Whatever role I play in the euros, I will ensure that I give 100 percent when I go out on the field. But it was clearly fun to start today and go on the score sheet.

“I think we have a team full of talent. Really exciting players. Players who have a lot of experience and players who have not received any fear in their first tournament. It is something that fans can be really enthusiastic about.”
